The New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, has announced the appointment of Hon Prince Anthony Kelechi Apugo as the acting Chairman of the party in Abia State, and Apostle Kanu Amogu J. as acting Secretary to drive the activities of the party in the state in line with the party’s principles of peace, equity and progress, with a promise to provide a robust opposition.
Addressing a press conference in Umuahia the Abia State capital, the new state chairman of the NNPP in Abia State, Prince Kelechi Apugo, said that his emergence as the Chairman of the party marks the beginning of a New Era for NNPP in Abia State, adding that he has accepted to perform this role that has placed the hopes and aspirations of the party and Abians on his shoulders.
Prince Kelechi Apugo stressed that as an opposition political party, that they are committed to providing robust and constructive opposition in Abia State, promising to holding the government accountable and to champion the interests of Abia people.
He said “our focus is on holding the government accountable, advocating for good governance and championing the interests of our people, while working extremely hard to win in future elections. Abians can expect an unwavering commitment from NNPP to safeguard their rights and interests”, Apugo notes.
The ag Abia State Chairman of the NNPP also called on their members who might have left the party due to one reason or the other to return and help reposition the party with the new leadership. According to him “To our members who may have left NNPP, we extend a heartfelt invitation to return home. Together, under the visionary leadership of our founder Dr Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam, our dedicated Board of Trustees led by Dr. TKO Aluko, and our National Working Committee led by Dr Agbo Major, we are poised to revitalize Democratic Liberalism and make NNPP the preferred destination for every Abian who seeks equity, freedom, and social justice”, Kelechi Apugo posits.
Hon Apugo also felicitated with the leader of the party in Abia state and NNPP governorship candidate in the 2023 General Election, Dr Ukpai Iro Ukpai together with all the party’s candidates in Abia State, while calling on them to close ranks as the party prepares to provide ethical leadership for Abians.

Distinguished ladies and gentlemen of the press, esteemed party members, and fellow Abians,
I am truly honored to stand before you today as the newly appointed Acting State Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Abia State. It is with great humility and a profound sense of duty that I accept this role, knowing that the hopes and aspirations of our party in Abia State in particular and Abians in general rest upon our shoulders.
A New Era for Abia State NNPP
Today is not just about announcing the new leadership and State Executive Committee that leads the party in Abia State; it marks the beginning of a new era for NNPP in Abia State. We gather here to usher in a period of transformation, innovation, and unity that will redefine our state’s political landscape.
Our Vision for Abia State
Our vision for Abia State is rooted in the principles of PEACE, EQUITY, AND PROGRESS, which form the bedrock of our party’s motto. We are determined to harness the power of these values to build a state where every citizen’s voice is heard, where opportunities abound for all, and where the welfare of the people takes precedence above all else.
Innovations in Political Party Administration
We are fully committed to innovative political party administration that brings discipline, commitment, and loyalty to the forefront. Our reform agenda is aimed at creating a cohesive and dedicated membership base. By conducting free and fair internal elections, promoting open dialogue and constructive feedback, and establishing mechanisms to address grievances, we will foster a culture of internal democracy that encourages active participation and ownership among our members.
Building a United NNPP
Unity is our strength. We recognize the diversity within our party and see it as a source of strength, not division. We extend an open invitation to all Abians, regardless of background or affiliation, to join us in our mission to transform Abia State via this political platform NNPP.
On this ‘unity’ note, let me felicitate our Leader in the State and NNPP Governorship Candidate in the last election, Dr Ukpai Iro Ukpai, Chief Ubuntu Advocate, global advocate for integrity in Governance and ethical leadership. I also salute all our NNPP candidates in the last general election in Abia State and call on all of you to close ranks as we prepare to provide ethical leadership for Abians starting with robust opposition which is part of our democracy and a determination to win elections.
I thank my fellow State Exco members who are here with me and the Executives at LGA and Ward levels for their unalloyed support and united resolve to make a difference in party administration.
