The appointments of the duo of Comrade Mohammad Garba, former National President of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, and Rt. Hon. Martins Azubuike as the Chief of Staff to the National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress APC and National Welfare Officer of the party respectively have been hailed as steps in the right direction.
This is even as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Ben Kalu has been applauded for impacting positively on the fortunes of the APC and its members in the South East region within his short period in office.
Chief Sylvanus Uzoma Nwaji, a chieftain of the party in Abia State who made this known in an exclusive interaction with NewsCritic online in Aba, while congratulating Garba and Azubuike on their appointments, expressed optimism that they would bring their wealth of experiences both in their professional and political careers to bear on the growth and development of the APC.
Chief Nwaji a former House of Representatives contestant for the Ukwa West/East federal constituency of Abia State, noted that Comrade Garba having served meritoriously as National President of the NUJ and Commissioner for Information in Kano State, as well as on the Board of some federal government establishments like SURE-P and Fiscal Responsibility Commission is in a vantage position to meaningfully assist the National Chairman in effectively piloting the affairs of the party.
According to Nwaji, a four-time Executive Chairman of Ukwa West local government council of Abia State, the antecedents of Barr. Azubuike as a former Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, and a major player in the political space of the state, are all that APC needs in its quest for unity and growth in the South East region.
He therefore called on the new National Welfare Officer to move swiftly to unite and galvanize members in the South East.
Chief Nwaji thanked the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Ben Kalu for his efforts in repositioning the APC in the South East as well as the integration of members within the short period he has been in the saddle.
“We in the South East APC are indeed proud of the quality of leadership which Hon. Kalu has so far provided for the APC in the South East. We are also optimistic that with him the party is in safe hands. On our part, as members we assure him, and all other leaders of APC at the national level from the South East of unalloyed support.
NewsCritic online reports that the duo of Comrade Garba and Rt Hon. Azubuike were earlier in the week appointed as Chief of Staff to the APC National Chairman Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and APC National Welfare Officer respectively.
Rt Hon Azubuike appointment comes as a replacement for Chief F N Nwosu who until his demise earlier this year occupied the position of APC National Welfare Officer.
