Abia Commissioner Calls On Stakeholders To Get Involved In Sanitation Exercise For Clean Environment

Abia State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu, has called on Abians and stakeholders to complement the efforts of the state government to bequeath a clean environment by participating actively in the monthly environmental sanitation exercise.

Prince Okey Kanu spoke when he received the executive committee members of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Abia State chapter in his office led by the Chairman Snr Apostle Emmanuel Agomuo. He said that the new administration led by Gov Alex Otti would like to partner with the CAN towards ensuring a clean, safe and healthy environment for all Abians.

The Abia State Commissioner pointed out that Gov Otti declared a state of emergency on waste disposal as soon as he was inaugurated, due to his desire to maintain a clean and safe environment, adding that the action has yielded positive results so far and will be sustained.

He said “as you are aware a new government is in place now in Abia State that is focused in delivering on its mandate, and we will want to work with the CAN in ensuring a clean, safe and healthy environment for Abia State.

Prince Kanu observed that keeping the environment clean helps to prevent diseases and or outbreak of epidemic of any kind, and harped on the need for all Abians and stakeholders to participate actively in the monthly environmental sanitation exercise.

Also speaking, the Abia State chairman of CAN, Snr Apostle Emmanuel Agomuo congratulated Prince Kanu, on his appointment as the commissioner for information and culture. He stressed that the CAN is happy with the work the present administration has done so far in the state, especially in the area of waste disposal.

He assured that their members would take the message to their various churches, as well as work with the government to keep the environment clean, since according to the CAN Chairman cleanliness is nearest to Godliness.

In his remarks the State Secretary of CAN, Pastor Mgbeahuru Okechukwu told the Commissioner that CAN which is made up of five bloc, will help to ensure that the people internalized environmental and personal hygiene.
