The Abia State government has once again assured residents of the state, particularly those in Aba the commercial hub of its readiness to consign into the dustbin of history the poor waste disposal and sanitary conditions of most of the cities, within the next six months.
Newly appointed General Manager of Abia State Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency, ASEPA, Mr Ogbonna Okereke who made this known during his official resumption of duties in Aba on Wednesday, July12 2023, told newsmen that the present administration of Gov Alex Otti is determined to do things differently to ensure that Abia cities wear a better sanitary look.
Mr Ogbonna said the state government has commenced the production of no few than an initial 100 units of waste disposal buckets to be strategically placed in Aba and Umuahia, the state capital.
“As a mark departure from the past, we are enlisting private investors. The initial plan is to take off with 100 units of the waste disposal buckets. There after private investors will come on board to partner with the government.
The private partnership initiative apart from providing the needed boost to government efforts in improving the sanitary conditions of the cities, will generate several direct and indirect job opportunities .The present efforts at riding our cities of indiscriminate waste disposal culture will be pursued with vigour, commitment, and sincerity of purpose,”Ogbnna noted.
The new ASEPA boss further stated that the Gov Alex Otti led administration in the state is determined to impact positively on the lives of the people on all fronts in appreciation of the enormous goodwill it garnered from the electorate during the last general elections.
According to Ogbonna, going by the sad experiences of the past years, majority of Abians are yearning for a change of narrative.
While reassuring the people of government’s commitment not to take their goodwill for granted, he called on the residents, especially those in Aba to assist and cooperate with the government to achieve its set goals.
