Some concerned elders of kano state under the aegis of Kano Patriots, have raised the alarm over what they described as the unbridled and inordinate personal ambition of the former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Sen Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso which is imperceptibly plunging the acclaimed commercial and political cradle of the Northern region into an unmitigated imbroglio.
This is even as they have called on the kano state anti-corruption and public complaints Commission to summon kwankwaso and his cohorts to explain the rationale behind the orchestration of the odious, repulsive and self-serving ‘Gandolla’ scandal in 2019, rather than pursuing shadow, with its purported invitation of the immediate past Gov, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who they noted all decerning minds are aware is a mere innocent victim.
In an exclusive telephone interview with NewsCritic online from his base in kano on Friday, July 7 2023 spokesman for the group, Alhaji Mohammed Abdullahi Dambatta warned that there is no way Kwankwanso, who should be apologizing to the good people of kano should expect to reap a political capital from the charade he staged managed.
Alhaji Dambatta regretted that kano has been retrogressing on all fronts ever since Kwankwanso, through his surrogate, Gov Abba Kabir Yusuf began his vindictive mission of destroying his former deputy, Dr Ganduje just to achieve some selfish political interests, noting that no matter how hard he Kwankwaso tries to undermine and diminish Ganduje, kano people already know and appreciate the true worth of their genuine leaders.
“Perhaps, at this juncture, it will be germane to put the record straight as regards this so called Gandolla scandal. Nigerians should know now that the whole thing was the handiwork of Kwankwaso, together with two people-one a former Central Bank, CBN, Governor and the other a former Governor of the North West state. I will not mention their names, but they know themselves.
The whole plot was stage managed to first stop Ganduje’s second term as governor in 2019. The second plan was to stop the prospect of Ganduje being chosen by Tinubu as his running mate during the just concluded presidential polls.
And now the present plan is to use the same phantom and orchestrated charade to build a gulf between President Tinubu and Ganduje, without minding its negative effects on the interest of kano people. Without mincing words, Kwankwaso is the biggest enemy of kano people,” Dambatta noted.
The kano Patriots, however, said they are not surprised at the present posturing of Kwankwaso, because it is perfectly in tandem with his arrogant and Emperor like disposition.
“For the avoidance of doubt, let me tell you a story of one such brazen display of arrogance. During his first tenure he once summoned the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero to the Government House at 2 am. This was the time the old man was supposed to be sleeping. But the Emir taught him a bitter lesson by delegating Kwankwaso’s father who is the District Head of Madobi to represent him. (District Heads are appointed by the Emir and they can represent him when mandated)
His father got the import of the message and harshly tongue lashed his son Kwankwaso for daring to draw the old man out at that odd hour. That is Kwankwaso for you. He wants everybody to bow down for him. That is the root cause of his problem with Ganduje, because the man told him to allow him preside over the affairs of kano after serving him loyally for two terms as Deputy Governor,” Dambatta lamented.
The kano Patriots spokesman further called on Kwankwaso to be grateful to and appreciate the role played by Ganduje in his political journey, rather than seek to destroy Kano under the guise of diminishing the man that has played a pivotal part in his political ascendency.
“For the records in 1999, Ganduje was the preferred choice of many kano people and the military having served as commissioner for works under late Colonel Dominic Oneya military government, during the late Sani Abacha regime. Kwankwaso and Ganduje contested the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, gubernatorial primaries, and everybody knows that Ganduje then backed by the late Abubakar Rimi won. But somehow somebody close to the Emir of Kano palace then (I will not mention his name) at the last minute brought one cooked up result from Gabasawa local council to truncate Ganduje’s victory. Thereafter pressure was mounted for him (Ganduje) to defect and contest the governorship election proper. But he objected and instead differed to pleas from PDP stalwarts who knew that without him the party will lose the election. He accepted to be the deputy, and without that singular sacrifice it is highly doubtful if Kwankwaso’s political journey would have lasted long as it is today,”Kano Patriots noted.
