Abia State Governor Dr Alex Otti is making steady progress in the core areas of his campaign promises, especially in health, education, waste management, security and Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, according to Prince Okey Kanu.
Briefing the press at Government House, Umuahia, after a meeting with the Governor on key areas the government is focussing on, the Commissioner designate and Special Adviser to the Governor on Strategic Communication, Prince Okey Kanu disclosed that the Gov Alex Otti is fulfilling his promises to Abia people on those areas where he has declared state of emergency.
According to him, the Governor has fulfilled his promise of payment of salaries on or before the 28th day of every month beginning with the June salary, adding that some workers are yet to receive the June salary due to non-compliance with verification exercise ordered by the government.
He further stated that the verification has saved the State over 370 million Naira, just as he said that the taskforce on waste management has been doing a great job. Prince Kanu attributed lack of waste disposal buckets and or receptacles as affecting the efforts, disclosing that efforts are being made to produce more receptacles for distribution in Aba and Umuahia.
On health, Prince Kanu revealed that three general hospitals in each of the three senatorial zones would be reconstructed and equipped within the first 100 days in office of the Governor, while some roads in Aba have been marked for reconstruction and palliative works in the first phase of the road construction.
The Commissioner designate also said that plans are on the way to renovate one primary school each in the 17 LGAs of the state, assuring that the security situation is under control as security agencies are on top of the situation for enhanced security in the Isuikwuato and Ihube axis of the State. according to the Special Adviser of Strategic Communication, the State government is committed to securing the lives and property of the Abia residents.
Prince Kanu said that the inauguration of the panel of inquiry on the recovery of government property and funds was a step in the right direction, adding that a committee has been established to address the menace of street trading.
Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on IGR, Mr. Chimereze Okigbo, disclosed that the Governor has launched a new app for a new digital tax system. He said the app would be able to register every trader, shop and transporter without losing revenue, pointing out that it will make revenue collection seamless.
That government will hold a town hall meeting with various stakeholders to interact with them and educate then in the modalities of the new tax system.
