We’re Saddled With Over N200 Billion Debt…My Cabinet Will Be Ready This Month- Gov Otti

By NewsCritic Reporters

Abia State Governor Dr Alex Otti said that his administration is saddled with over N200 billion debt, as against the false claim by his predecessor that they left behind enough money in the state coffers.

Dr Otti stated this while addressing a mammoth gathering of the people of Umuahia/Ikwuano federal constituency, during the thanksgiving/reception in honour of Rep Obi Aguocha today at the Nkwoegwu Central School.

According to the Abia State Governor, one of the distractions and lies his administration has to deal with was that from the past administration, adding that while he would prefer to ignore some of the distractions, he is compelled to clarify the issue about the financial status of the state because of the lies being peddled about in the media space.

He admitted that a whole lot of work needs to be done, adding that Umuahia which is like a glorified village would not remain this way. The Gov stressed that by the end of this month they would begin to pay confirmed salaries arrears of workers, and also pensions to the senior citizens after sorting out the fictitious figures. He called on the civil servants and pensioners to exercise a little patience.

While asking for the support of Abians in the onerous task of rebuilding the state, Gov Otti disclosed that the state executive council would be ready by the end of June because he wants to hit the ground running.

In his opening remarks at the event, Hon (Sir) Obi Aguocha, the Member representing Umuahia/Ikwuano federal constituency at the National Assembly, said he wants to thank God for his love and for changing the situation of Abia State.

Sir Aguocha used the opportunity to eulogise the Abia Gov, whom he said stood his ground to ensure that there is justice, equity and fairness by handing the Labour Party, LP, ticket to a candidate of Ohuhu origin.

Said Aguocha, “when we said it is Ohuhu’s turn there is someone who made it possible, and if not for Dr Otti…So I’ll remain loyal and faithful to him because he stood by us to ensure there is justice.
