A frontline kano political leader and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Alhaji Abdulmajid Danbiliki Kwanmanda, aka ‘Commander’ has warned that the blame for any untoward developments in kano should be squarely domiciled on the door steps of the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, and former Governor of the state, Sen Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, even as he described the barely three weeks old administration of Gov Abba Kabir Yusuf as a monumental disaster and a ghastly accident. This is just as he has advised President Bola Tinubu not to harbour Kwankwaso in his administration in any capacity, as doing so will mark the beginning of problems for the APC not only in Kano, but in the entire North.
NewsCritic online reports that for three weeks now, the political temperature of the ever-volatile Kano state has been raised to a near boiling point by the spate of demolition of some buildings being carried out by the NNPP led regime.
Several buildings, including Malls and business premises worth several billions of naira have been reduced to rubbles by the new administration, on the grounds that they were erected on public and government property. Last week, the demolition exercise saw the pulling down of the multi-million-naira kano state Golden Jubilee architectural monument in front of the state’s seat of power, a development which has drawn the ire of many even across party lines.
Alhaji Commander in an interview with NewsCritic online on Friday June 16, said the demolition exercise and all other anti-people policies of the present Kano state government has the imprint of Kwankwaso, and are in tandem with his tendencies of not brooding any one greater than him in the Kano political space. He noted that the former presidential candidate of the NNPP is being hunted by the fact that the landmarks achievements of his successor have dwarfed his self-acclaimed feats and is bent on rubbishing them using his acolyte, Gov Yusuf.
“The entire world should note that all that is presently going on in Kano under the present regime is being orchestrated by Kwankwaso for his selfish political ends. He is in the habit of not tolerating anybody that appears to be greater than him. Right now, Kano is having two Governors- one going with siren and the other without siren. The truth of the matter is that Kwankwaso is serving a third term as far as Yusuf is the Gov. That is what Kwankwaso wants as far as kano politics is concerned. He wants to be seen always as the leader. Everything happening in kano state government at the moment is his agenda, and the refusal of the immediate past Gov, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to be subservient was the major cause of their disagreement. Now, he seems to have found his voice with Gov Yusuf,” Commander stated.
The APC top stalwart described the demolition exercise as a monumental misadventure that has greatly taken the economy of kano one hundred steps backwards. According to him, the exercise has instilled fear in prospective investors going by the extent of losses suffered by many people as a result of the demolitions, adding that the development has worsened the unemployment situation in Kano.
