As the 10th National Assembly gears up for inauguration on Tuesday 13 June, 2023, a critical stakeholder in Abia State and founder of Team Nwa-Abia Movement, Chief Chris Akachukwu Nwa-Abia has called on Ndigbo to show public support for Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s senate presidency bid.
The All Progressives Congress, APC, has zoned the senate presidency seat to the South with Senator Orji Kalu among the frontline contenders. While speaking with newsmen against the background of the alleged marginalisation of the South East in the political equation, Chief Chris Akachukwu Nwa-Abia maintained that Senator Orji Kalu’s senate presidency would help address some of the perceived wrongs perpetrated against the region.
Therefore, he called for unconditional support by the South East for Orji Kau to be successful in the senate presidency run. He said that what should be paramount to Ndigbo is on how to occupy the country’s number three position, adding that the Igbo nation is one of the tripods upon which Nigeria stands and deserves to occupy the senate top job.
Chief Chris Akachukwu Nwa-Abia who holds the title of Ihie Umuahia, described the senate Chief Whip as a pragmatic leader, who has shown capacity to lead the 10th senate chambers, insisting that Kalu’s senate presidency will reposition the South East as well as beneficial to Nigeria.
In his considered opinion, “nobody should display ignorance on the need to have this pragmatic personality at the forefront because it will largely bring the most desirable benefits to the South East if Orji Kalu emerges the Senate President”.
He said that it is important to avoid any negative impression of the past about Orji Kalu and support him because it is the interest of the South East, which according to him has been disadvantaged politically over the years that matters.
Said Chris Nwa-Abia, “Orji Uzor Kalu will not be intimidated as Senate President, he will fight for the interest of the South East and the masses in general because he is audacious and will reach the President direct. Don’t forget that he and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu were in the same Nigeria Governor’s Forum Class, so there is really nothing that will restrain him from ensuring that the South East is put in the right pedestal and does not lose out again.
