The House of Representatives member-elect for Umuahia/Ikwuano federal constituency, Sir Obi Aguocha has advanced reasons why he is in support of the Tajudeen Abbas and Ben Kalu speakership and deputy speakership candidature in the emerging 10th National Assembly.
Recall that the All Progressives Congress, APC, nominated Godswill Akpabio and Barau Jubrin for senate president and deputy respectively, while also picking Abbas and Kalu for the House of Representatives leadership.
Speaking as a guest on Thursday’s edition of Channels Television Sunrise Daily, Sir Obi Aguocha who won a landslide victory under the platform of the Labour Party, LP, expressed confidence in the candidature of those put forward by the APC, adding that Tajudeen Abbas would bring about intellectual content as well as foster cohesion between executive and legislature.
According to Obi Aguocha anybody is at liberty to object to the process put forward by APC, while insisting that personally he is of the view that Abbas and Kalu are the best, saying “I’ve not seen anything to the contrary”.
He said “I believe that the zoning arrangement being put forth is the only way forward. Otherwise, we would be marginalised in the selection of presiding offices if we don’t have the numbers”.
According to him, the arrangement gives the South-East a good opportunity at the presiding table. “For a very long time, we have not had other opportunities in the House of Representatives, in terms of speakership in the last forty years, but we are making progress,” Aguocha stated. He stressed that the 10th NASS leadership and stability are important.
“In this day and age of Peter Obi, Nigerians are yearning for good governance, Nigerians are yearning for something that is different. In APC, Abbas stands tall above every other person running in APC.”
The inauguration of the lawmakers holds next week Tuesday following their proclamation by Mr President.
