…stresses the need for sensitization of the residents
Special Adviser to Governor Alex Otti on Strategic Communication, Mr. Okey Kanu today met with the management staff of the Ministry of Information and Strategy, during which he stressed the need for the Ministry to adequately inform Abia people as well as sensitize the people about the policies and programmes of the administration.
Mr. Okey Kanu while speaking at the interactive meeting with the management staff of the Ministry stated that lack of proper information would make people to be disconnected from the government of the day. He added that Gov Otti’s administration is committed to ensuring that no Abian is left behind in its programmes.
The Special Adviser, who charged them to work in line with the vision of the State Governor, assured that the present administration led by Dr Otti would work to improve the living standard of the people.
According to him, the administration has already noticed some challenges in the civil service system, including lack of discipline, knowledge, skills as well as impunity and corruption, maintaining that government desires to change the way things are done in the State for good, hence would not tolerate indolence in the service.
Kanu said he came to know the state of affairs in the Ministry so as to be able to draw up the immediate, medium term and long term needs of the Ministry and urged them to compile their briefs and submit accordingly.
Responding, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Charles Ifenkwe assured that the Ministry is committed to ensuring that adequate publicity is made on government policies and activities. He said the staff of the Ministry would fit into the policy directives of the Gov Otti’s led administration, and expressed his happiness over the meeting. He promised that the Ministry would submit the brief as requested.
In their various contributions, the State Director of Information,
Comrade John Emejor; Director of Finance, Mr. Sunny Kanu among others commended the Special Adviser to the Governor for efforts in reviving the spirit of the workforce.
They listed some challenges of the Ministry to include lack of funding, equipment among others, and requested that the training and retraining of staff as well as the deployment of technology in the service to enhance efficiency and productivity should be looked into.
