Some prominent Igbos under the aegis of Concerned Stakeholders Of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide has called on the Igbo’s irrespective of political party affiliations to queue behind the Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu led Ohaneze Ndigbo, to ensure the protection and promotion of the overall interests of the Igbo Nation and those of the oppressed Nigerians.
In a communique issued at the end of its meeting on Wednesday May17th, 2023 signed by Comrade Ndubuisi Igwekani and made available to newsmen in Aba, the group appealed to all those that are aggrieved over the election of Chief Iwuanyanwu as late Prof George Obiozor’s successor as Ohaneze leader to sheath their swords and assist the apex socio-cultural umbrella body in its quest to take the people to the promise land.
“We must support Elder Iwuanyanwu to redeem the image of Ohaneze as a body with the conduct of a credible election after completing the tenure of Imo state. We must support him to keep throwing the body’s weight behind Peter Obi’s struggle to reclaim his stolen mandate,” the group stated.
They warned all political jobbers against using the name of Ohaneze in pursuing their selfish interests, especially those hiding under the canopy of Ohaneze to curry cheap political favour from Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the disputed president- elect, adding that such transactional political actors will be viewed and treated for what they are – betrayers of the collective desire of the oppressed people of Nigeria to free themselves from political bondage.
“It is strange that at a time when Nigerians irrespective of tribal and or religious affiliations are yet to accept Tinubu as the president-elect, some political turncoats and jobbers are busy trying to build a huge, but dirty economic capital out of the whole unfortunate scenario. These political merchants and opportunists have embarrassed the downtrodden people of Nigeria enough. They can’t be using the name of Ohaneze to be working against the interests of the suffering people of Nigeria. We warn here that they should be prepared to face the wrath of the aggrieved masses of this country, should they continue to work against the collective desire and interests of the people, “the group warned.
