The federal high court Umuahia has held that Hon Ugochukwu Ezeocha remains the validly nominated candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, for the Umuahia North (Ohuhu) state constituency election held on the 18 March, 2023.

NewsCritic online reports that the primary election of the PDP for the Umuahia North state constituency held on 22 May, 2022, which produced Hon Ugochukwu Ezeocha was challenged by Chief Raymond Ofoegbu aka Onyinye Ohuhu, who claimed that he actually won the primaries and not Ezeocha.

However, in his ruling Justice Liman of the federal high court sitting in Umuahia the Abia state capital delivered on 31 February, 2023 dismissed in its entirety the suit filed by Chief Raymond Ofoegbu for lack of merit. The judge declared that Hon Ugochukwu Ezeocha was validly nominated by the PDP as the candidate for the Umuahia North state constituency.

With the ruling, the issue of who was the authentic candidate of the PDP in the just concluded governorship and state assembly election has been laid to rest. However, Chief Ofoegbu has signified his intention to appeal the ruling of the federal high court despite the PDP losing in the election to the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate.

The judgement of the court came almost two weeks after the conduct of the governorship and state assembly elections in Abia State.
