Stakeholders of Arochukwu/ Ohafia federal constituency of Abia State, have agreed to unite in order to promote the mutual interests of the two councils and eight clans in the constituency.
They equally agreed to implement a harmonious power sharing agreement between the two councils.
This was the outcome of a recent roundtable conference organised by the bipartisan stakeholders held at the Akanu Ohafia country home of Odo Ijere, an Engineer.
The roundtable chaired by the Deputy Speaker, Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu, was well attended by prominent indigenes of the area, including Senator MAO Ohuabunwa, Dr Chidia Maduekwe, and Chief Arua Arunsi among others.
AROHAFIA roundtable conference is a non- partisan but multi- party assembly of eight ancient clans of Arochukwu, Ohafia, Abiriba, Nkporo, Abam, Ihechiowa, Ututu and Isu, desirous of uniting under one economic and socio- political bloc for the purpose of enhancing the political and economic growth of the Arochukwu/Ohafia federal constituency.
According to a 10-point communique issued at the end of the conference, the stakeholders resolved as follows:
“To pursue the amalgamation of AROCHUKWU and OHAFIA CLANS for
the purpose of their political and economic interests to enhance the development of the Federal Constituency.
“To enhance cultural and sociological exchanges between the eight ancient clans that make up the Arochukwu and Ohafia Ancient Kingdoms.
“To build bridges of coalition that will reposition the political growth of the two contiguous local governments under one common interest.
“To adjudicate the issues of power sharing within the Federal Constituency with all sense of responsibility, equity, fairness and justice.
“To produce an organic Article of Association for the body for legitimate political, economic and cultural exchanges.
“To call for an enlarged meeting of the group to adopt our Articles of Association.
“To maintain the AROHAFIA ROUNDTABLE as a non-partisan socio-cultural/political group for building bridges of co-operation within the federal constituency.
“To extend consultation of the objectives of forming this group to more political leaders within Arochukwu and Ohafia LGAs in order to carry everyone along.
“To host an All Arochukwu and Ohafia town hall meeting by 7th of February 2023, where all the candidates of all the political parties from the zone will be in attendance to hear from them concerning the programmes for Arochukwu and Ohafia development before the election.
” To immediately form two committees, (a) Consultative/Contacts and mobilization, (b), Projects Coordination Committee.”
