History was made at the 29th Convocation ceremony of Abia State University, Uturu, as Miss Oluoamachi Agbazuere, the daughter of immediate past Chief of Staff to Gov Okezie Ikpeazu, Prof. ACB Agbazuere emerged the overall Best Graduating Student of the school, as well as Best Graduand in Law with CGPA of 4.75.
In his address at the Convocation ceremony held on Friday 27 January, 2023 the Vice Chancellor of the ABSU, Prof Onyemachi Maxwell Ogbulu, congratulated Miss Oluomachi Agbazuere from the Faculty of Law on her emergence as overall Best Graduating Student. He announced that in keeping with the tradition of the university, the best graduating student will be offered automatic employment as academic staff of this university.
Besides the automatic employment by the university, Miss Oluomachi Agbazuere, also won the Uche Ogah Group award for best graduating student in overseas scholarship and the Chief Umeh Kalu award for best Law graduand worth N150,000. She also bagged in her kitty the Prof ACB Agbazuere award for best graduating student in Law worth N500,000 annually.
Delivering her address at the convocation ceremony, Miss Oluomachi Agbazuere, said she is grateful to the Almighty God for crowning her efforts with success. She also thanked her mother the late Mrs Onyinyechi Agbazure for her prayers and support, and her father Prof ACB Agbazuere for his encouragement and for providing her with all her needs in her academic pursuit.
Also, she thanked her lecturers for contributing to her success, adding that the school motto ‘Excellence and Service’ was of great encouragement to her success.
Said Miss Agbazure “I had always worked hard knowing who exactly I wanted to be…I had a goal and I worked towards actualising it. I’ve not only passed through the school but the school has gone through me and I’ve been found worthy in character and learning. I therefore encourage other students and to tell them that their goals are achievable”, he enthused.
A total of 3,757 students graduated from the university with 19 first class degrees, 1160 second class upper division and 2004 second class lower division. 110 students made third class, while three came out with pass.
The highpoint of the event was the conferment of honorary doctorate degrees on Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, and Chief Reginald Chika Stanley, while Prof Ogwo O Ogwo a former Vice Chancellor of the university was conferred with the award of emeritus Professor.
