APC Zoom Judgement: Hon Onyedi Okwulehie Dismisses Ruling, Says It Can’t Stand On Appeal

By NewsCritic Reporters

The All Progressives Congress, APC, flagbearer for Umuahia North State Constituency seat in the 2023 General Election, Hon Onyedi Okwulehie has dismissed the purported judgement of the federal high court Enugu, declaring the House of assembly candidates that emerged through the direct mode of primaries allegedly conducted by the Chief Uche Ogah faction as the validly elected candidates.
He told NewsCritic online that the judgement amounts to travesty of justice, since there is a subsisting Appeal court ruling that affirmed Chief Ikechi Emenike as the authentic and validly nominated governorship candidate of APC for Abia State.
Hon Onyedi Okwulehie maintained that it’s the same process through which Chief Emenike emerged as party’s candidate that also brought the rest of them, adding that there’s no cause for alarm.
He said as law abiding citizens they will rely on the Appeal Court to vacate the order.
Since the Abia APC held its primaries, the party has been in court as Chief Ikechi Emenike, who is the candidate being backed by top hierarchy of the party was been challenged by Dr Uche Ogah, who emerged the factional governorship candidate.
The judgement affirming the the election of the house of assembly candidates belonging to Ogah’s faction was based on suit filed by one Mr Akaliro Anderson, who is now making claims as the APC candidate for Umuahia North State Constituency.
NewsCritic reports that in the case of Godswill Akpabio and Udom Ekpoudom for Akwa Ibom North West senatorial district, the Supreme Court held that INEC contravened the law when it refused to accept and publish Akpabio’s name despite the fact that APC had listed him as its candidate.
It ruled that the issue of candidacy is an internal party affairs and strips the trial court and appeal court the jurisdiction to hear the suit. Akpabio’s 10 ground of appeal was subsequently allowed.
Analysts have opined that the judiciary has become a major threat to democracy in Nigeria with conflicting judgements and orders.
