I’ll Liquidate All Outstanding Salaries, Pensions Within The First Six Months In Office – Prof Ikonne

BY NewsCritic Reporters

Governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Abia State, Prof Uche Ikonne has promised to liquidate all outstanding salary arrears and Pensions within the first six months of assuming office as governor in 2023.
Prof Uche Ikonne maintained that salaries and pensions are the rights of workers, adding that there is no justification to demand for high productivity whilst the worker is being owed his or her salaries.
He promised to prioritize workers welfare, disclosing that he has specific arrangements to clear all outstanding salaries and pensions within six months in office.
“So, talking about salaries and pensions, it’s when I take over I’m going to see the circumstances if there is any outstanding before I know since the government is still paying…and if there are still arrears remaining I have specific arrangements to clear them”, Prof Ikonne stressed.
According to the PDP governorship candidate, contributory pension would be encouraged, “so that government will pay its part and the worker contributes his or her percentage”. This will reduce the burden on the government and that is how I planned to resolve the pension issue, Ikonne explained.
Prof Ikonne spoke during an interactive session with Online Media Practioners of Abia State at Umuahia on Wednesday. He promised not to be deistracted from serving the people of Abia state, saying that anyone who will want to jeopardize his integrity would not be allowed to do so in the interest of Abians.
