Chairman Ariaria International Market Aba, Elder Emeka Igara, has lauded the Abia Sate government for leaving up to its promise to tackle the perennial flooding problem at the 47-year old market.
This is just as he expressed optimism that the market has been insulated from all flooding related problems with the completion of the construction of the water evacuation tunnel at the Market.
In an exclusive chart with the NewsCritic online Tuesday in Aba, Elder Igara equally commended the contractor handling the remodeling and reconstruction efforts at the market Blessed Henken for meeting the government’s deadline for it to solve the flooding problem, which has been ravaging the market for years now.
It would be recalled that about a month ago, following a devastating flooding that swept across the market which resulted in monumental loss of goods by traders, Gov Okezie Ikpeazu had given the contracting firm a two week time frame to make the market flood free.
“I am happy to let the whole world know that Ariaria market as of today is flood free. The contactor has complied with the state government’s directives to solve the flooding problem by constructing a water channeling tunnel from the market through Faulks road to its discharging point.
Similarly, “it has commenced the reconstruction of the A -Line road which has been the precursor to the flooding. Hopefully, with the pace of work ongoing the road will be completed in less than no time. In all, we are happy that the market has been made safe from flood related issues.
We are grateful to the state government for its foresight and timely intervention in remodeling and reconstructing the market, a decision which has saved the market some gory tales as being heard in many parts of the country today,” Igara stated.
He also reiterated government’s unflinching determination to complete the ongoing reconstruction efforts and hand-over the shops to their owners before the end of its tenure. While commending the quality of the reconstruction, the Chairman appealed once again to all the traders affected by the ongoing remodeling to be patient and never entertain any fears about getting their shops back, as according to him Gov Ikpeazu remains a man of honour, who has never played and will never joke with issues that concern the wellbeing of the good people of the state.
