As the battle for the political soul of Abia State draws closer, the umbrella body of Ukwa-Ngwa people, the Ohaukwa Congress has said that it plans to embark on a massive sensitisation of its members both within and outside the state with a view to boosting the chances of the electoral victory of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and all its candidates come the 2023 polls.
To this end the apex socio-cultural body of the Ukwa-Ngwa land said it is targeting no fewer than 200, 000 eligible voters.
This much was made known by its President-General, Elder (Barr) Chinenye Emelogu in an exclusive chart with NewsCritic online last weekend in Aba.
According to Barr. Emelogu, who is also the Abia State Commissioner for Project Monitoring and Implementation the Congress is leaving nothing to chance in its determination to ensure that the PDP retains the political baton in the state.
This according to him is the only way of ensuring that the laudable milestones of the present Gov Okezie Ikpeazu’s administration is not undermined.
“In the coming weeks we are going to send our field men and women to the rural areas to first mobilise our people on the need to go and collect their Permanent voters’ card, PVC. We’ve discovered that most of them even after registering have not gone to collect their cards.
“Now that the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC is ready to give out the cards, we have decided that our people should be sensitised on the need to go and collect their PVCs. And when campaign officially kicks-off, our target is to mobilise over 200,000 votes for the PDP and its candidates. We deed it in 2015 and 2019 and we are set to do it even better this time. The reason being that in the previous elections people were not much aware of the feats of the administration. But now, with the opening of the rural areas by the government through massive infrastructural facilities, we are going to find it easier reaching out to the people “, Emelogu said.
He, therefore, called on all stakeholders and progressive minded people across the state to come on board and partner with the Congress in this all-important task of moving the state forward.
