Abia State Vigilante Service, AVS, otherwise known as Bakassi has assured the people of Abia State especially residents of the Umunneochi-Uturu-Isikwuato axis that the security organisation is on top of the game in its efforts to end incessant kidnappings in the area and ensure that motorists ply the routes without fear of being kidnapped by bandits.
The Commander General of the Abia State Vigilante Service, Idika Martins Mba, said that the security trends at Umunneochi axis would normalise very soon with the measures that his AVS has adopted to tackle the menace of kidnapping and criminality head on.
Idika Martins Mba appealed to the Abia State government to strengthen the operations of the AVS and provide them with the necessary operational Vehicles to enhance their operations and capacity to confront criminals, especially kidnappers who have made life unbearable for their victims.
According to the AVS Commander General, the security of Abians is of serious concern to him, adding that they would not rest until adequate security is restored in the state now and throughout the electioneering period.
He advised parents to monitor the activities of their wards and to try to know who are their friends as according to him, most parents do not monitor their children thereby failing in their role as parents. Idika Martins Mba regretted that the security of the state is being compromised due to the activities of cult groups, and warned that any one caught in the act would face the wrath of the law.
NewsCritic online reports that about 25 suspected criminals have been arrested by the men of the Abia State Vigilante Service in the various units and locations recently. The Commander General said they were handed over to the Police for investigation and prosecution.
Idika Martins Mba called on residents to volunteer useful information to the AVS and Police that would help in the fight to combat kidnapping and other forms of criminality in the state.
