The Ohiya Ukwu Autonomous Community Movement Umuahia South LGA has elected executives who are to pilot the activities of the body pending the official recognition of the community by the Abia State government.
The Ohiya-Ukwu Autonomous Movement also resolved to pass a vote of no confidence on the traditional ruler of Ohiya Autonomous community HRM Eze Abel E. Uhuegbu for enthroning hatred amongst brothers and divisiveness among families, hamlets and villages which have led to the collapse of the administrative leadership at all levels in Ohiya.
This resolution was passed at the maiden Ohiya-Ukwu Easter Convention held on April 11th, 2022 and rectified at its meeting held on Monday July 11, 2022 at the Nkwoebo Ohiya Square. Ohiya Ukwu Autonomous Community Movement also resolved to empower the national executive council to select a regent in the interim and present to the authorities for recognition, adding that it wants the government and relevant agencies as well as the general public to be put on notice.
Speaking at the event the Leader of Ohiya Ukwu Autonomous Community Movement Chief (Barr) Emeka Longman Nwachukwu, said that the Ohiya Ukwu Autonomous Community has come to stay, and assured that the new community is going to be a model among communities both in terms of development and leadership in Umuahia and Abia State.
He regretted that the traditional ruler of Ohiya Autonomous Community Eze Abel Uhegbu and his agents have been fighting against the birth of Ohiya-Ukwu Autonomous community by using security agencies to hunt the leadership of the community. He disclosed that in the course of this movement HRM Eze Uhuegbu has dragged the leaders to the state CID, Zone 9 headquarters and to Force headquarters Abuja on framed up allegations.
Chief Emeka Longman Nwachukwu stressed that there is need for development in Ohiya after 22-years of its autonomous status without any visible development in the community, despite its strategic location and large deposit of human and natural resources.
He pointed out that they have resolved to break away from the old order hence the birth of the Movement for the realisation of Ohiya Ukwu Autonomous community.
