Governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, for Abia State in the 2023 General Election, Bishop Sunday Onuoha has advocated for the establishment of indigenous security to curb the menace of killer herdsmen who have occupied forests in the eastern region.
Bishop Sunday Onuoha said his priority as would be governor of Abia State will centre on security because, according to him Abia State is in trouble and need to be liberated very quickly.
Addressing select group of journalists in Umuahia on Monday 20th June 2022, the ADC governorship flagbearer maintained that it would amount to nought if we are waiting on Abuja to come and protect our people here, because they cannot protect us.
He noted that until we create a security group that is indigenous and communities take responsibility, local economy and farming will continue to suffer.
Said Bishop Onuoha “Security challenge in Abia State is something that could be handled and it would be handled when I am elected governor in 2023. Leru-Ihube-Umunneochi -Okigwe to Enugu axis is a death trap because the bandits who masquerade as herdsmen have taken over that corridor.
“This is farming period and farmers can’t go to farm and be raped by the idiots. What is happening is that we are planting the seed of hunger because we allowed foreigners to occupy our forests, he stressed.
He further stated that he got involved in politics in order to bring hope to the hopeless and fight for the liberation of Abia state. Bishop Onuoha believes that Abia needs fast thinkers to be in office. He promised to be open, transparent and honest in his activities as governor, while promising to work in partnership with the people to deliver on good governance.
The ADC governorship candidate insists that a new Abia is possible and called on Abians to let him hand over God’s Own State to God.
His mission for a new Abia include security and social welfare, job creation/youth and women empowerment; agriculture and rural development; accessible basic health for all; education for sustainable development as well as agriculture and rural development.
Bishop Sunday Onuoha is from Okai-Item, in Bende LGA of Abia State and he is the founder/President of Vision Africa International, a nongovernmental organisation that implements free medical missions and community programmes etc.
He holds a Doctorate Degree from the prestigious Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas USA and Masters Degree also from Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas, USA. He studied infrastructural Development at John F. Kennedy School of Government in Harvard University and B.A Hons from University of Ibadan, Nigeria.
