A Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, chieftain and aspirant in the just concluded state assembly primaries for Umuahia Central constituency, Chief Acho Ojukwu may dump the party, according to sources.
The grassroot politician and mobilizer is said to be disappointed by the manner and process the party conducted its primaries which led to the emergence of a candidate for Umuahia Central state constituency. The process and delegates list were flawed and skewed in a favour of a particular aspirant.
NewsCritic reports that the primaries which held at School Road Primary School was manipulated as the delegates list was doctored and used to deliver their favoured aspirant against others, who have paid their dues and helped the party to succeed in the urban wards.
“So Acho Ojukwu the frontline aspirant in Umuahia Central constituency and grassroots mobilizer might dump the PDP because the process of the primaries was deceitful, undemocratic and unconstitutional, said the source.
It was said that the PDP leadership misled the aspirants that they would be given a level playing field only for them to manipulate the three-man delegates lists without making it open to the contestants. Many aspirants and party members are on their way out of the party at the time of this reports due to the charade that passed as primary elections.
It was equally gathered that the Urban Ward three which has been short-changed in the distribution of political offices in Umuahia Central is not happy with the outcome of the primaries because they had insisted it was their turn to produce the next lawmaker after ward one and two have taken their turns.
There are fears that PDP may get protest votes at the General Election if nothing was done to pacify the ward three people.
