A leading governorship aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Mayor Lucky Igbokwe (Don Lulu), has promised that if given the opportunity, Abia State under his watch would become the pride of South East, and truly Number One state in Nigeria.
The Entertainment guru and Information Communication Technology, ICT, expert said that he would provide the needed environment that would trigger massive youth employment that would positively engage the teeming youth population in the state.
He said that “Abia is heavily endowed with abundant human and natural resources” but regretted that most Abians of productive age lack the necessary training and skills due to lack of visionary leadership and policy direction.
Igbokwe who spoke while addressing a group of Abia youths who came to pledge their support for his governorship ambition, said that “what Abia needs in 2023 is an energetic visionary leader with clear-cut agenda to re-invent the state”.
He said that any governorship aspirant who has no convincing and workable blueprint for economic transformation of the state and plan for the youths should be asked to withdraw from the race.
According to him the era of experimentation with stooges and unprepared leaders is gone.
Igbokwe said that time has come for the youths with future and track records of success in their private lives to assume leadership roles in the state and launch Abia into the global economic map.
He said that with the Entertainment industry and ICT alone, he would make Abia the economic honey-pot of Nigeria.
Igbokwe who said he was fully ready and prepared for the job, urged Abia youths to file behind him, promising not to fall them.
He also appealed to PDP delegates to vote according to their conscience based on the competence of the aspirants, and not to mortgage the future of the state because of pecuniary interests.
Speaking earlier, leader of the youth delegation, Comrade Chika Okoro, said they came to lend their support to his governorship ambition based on his track records.
He explained that if Igbokwe could in his private capacity provide hope for a number of Abia youths as he had done, he would do far more if given a better opportunity.
The you leader assured him of the unflinching support of Abia youths while urging the PDP to give their governorship ticket to “a youth like Mayor Lucky Igbokwe”.
He said that PDP should forget power in 2023 if the party gives its governorship ticket to any aspirant beyond 55 years.
