The rustic village of Umuda-Okorocha Isingwu in Ohuhu, Umuahia North Local Government Area, LGA, of Abia State came alive with politics Monday March 7, 2022 when the All Progressives Congress, APC, stakeholders, LGA and Ward executives converged at the home of Chief Chris Akachukwu Nwa-Abia, to chart the roadmap for the party ahead of the 2023 General Election.
It was indeed a gathering of party men and women who are eager for change in the Abia State political space and wish to join forces with the APC Leader in the State, Chief Ikechi Emenike to rescue Abia from the inept leadership question, which has characterised Abia’s chequered political history, since the advent of this republic.
Addressing the mammoth gathering of party faithful who attended the meeting at his residence, the host, Chief Chris Akachukwu Nwa-Abia, declared that the theme for this political gathering is “Expanding Our Horizon for Greater Exploits” amidst applause from excited party members.
Chief Akachukwu Nwa-Abia who holds the title of Ihie Ohuhu and Omeroha Isingwu started his speech by welcoming every one present at the APC stakeholders and ward exco meeting for showing interest on how to move the party to the next level. He said that the party must be visible this time around with activities and engagements in order to attract more membership to its fold ahead of 2023.
He said if the APC must be victorious that every member both at the ward and LGA levels should work very hard to win more membership, adding that Chief Ikechi Emenike has worked the extra mile as an individual to bring the party to its present level with formidable structure and party machinery which he built over the years intact.
Chief Chris Nwa-Abia who commended the stakeholders for their efforts so far, however, reminded them that they must realise the fact that it’s now the work just started, and with repeated emphasis on the theme of the meeting “Expanding our horizon for greater exploits” called for regular ward and LGA meetings to draw up strategies and enhance synergy among party members.
He used the opportunity to appeal to the LGA executives to make available party registration booklet and materials to the wards to enable them register more people who are willing, and bring them into the party’s fold, saying that at this point there must be strong drive for membership in the party.
Furthermore, Chris Nwa-Abia announced that he has personally established a political structure for Chief Ikechi Emenike, while urging the stakeholders to feel free to replicate same and spread the message of Chief Ikechi Emenike and the APC to Abians, who are yearning for change.
“I think what we should be doing now is to evangelise and talk to people about Chief Ikechi Emenike and the APC. We want change and he have the capacity, the energy and spirit to drive the change, so let’s start projecting him, he is a good man, a dogged fighter who has the interest of the masses at heart. He is the face of APC in Abia State and with him victory is guaranteed.”
The highpoint of the event was the announcement by Nwa-Abia to support the wards in Ohuhu in their activities to help grow the party.
Chief Ifeanyichukwu Ekwuribe, the LGA party chairman and other stakeholders who spoke applauded Chris Nwa-Abia for the initiatives and for playing a leading role in the party in order to enhance its fortunes. They thanked Nwa-Abia for pledging to support the wards to facilitate party meetings, saying that it would go a long way to help the party succeed. They also harped on the need for the members to participate in the on going INEC voters’ registration exercise and obtain their PVC.
