Stakeholders of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State, have adopted Senator MAO Ohuabunwa as their sole candidate for the 2023 Abia North senatorial election.
The decision was taken during a stakeholders meeting held at Abam on January 29, 2022 where the political future and other critical issues affecting the council were x-rayed.
In a communique issued at the end of the meeting, the stakeholders urged Senator Ohuabunwa to make himself available again to serve the zone, assuring him of their unalloyed support.
The communique which was jointly signed by former Council chairman, Hon. Princely Kingsley Ngunu; the incumbent Deputy Chairman of the LGA, Cletus Nwankwo; and Hon. Thom Ezeikpe, said that Senator Ohuabunwa has “a proven record of competence at the senate”.
The stakeholders who decried the circumstances which led to the inability of Ohuabunwa to return to the senate in 2019, regretted that Abia North senatorial district “has now gone mute at the current senate”.
The PDP stakeholders also threw their weight behind the clamour for power shift to Abia North come 2023, arguing that the agitation is justifiably supported by the spirit of Abia Charter of Equity.
They commended Gov Okezie Ikpeazu for the giant strides of his administration in repositioning the state, especially the security sector as well as his “massive infrastructural development programmes”.
The stakeholders passed vote of confidence on the governor and pledged their unflinching support for his administration.
They also commended the Executive Chairman of Arochukwu LGA, Prince Daniel Kalu Orji and members of his cabinet for their untiring efforts to promote peace and harmony in the council.
