Member representing Umuahia/Ikwuano federal constituency, Hon Sam Onuigbo weekend attended the 27th Annual General Meeting of the Obuohia Obi-Ibere Development Union (national women’s wing), promising to facilitate the construction of a new market in the community as part of efforts to enhance economic activities at the rural areas.
The Umuahia/Ikwuano House of Representatives member, who was among the merit award recipients for his selfless and humanitarian services to youths, women and men of the Obuohia Obi-Ibere, thanked the women for their strong support to him even at a time he was yet to join partisan politics.
Hon Sam Onuigbo charged the women to remain united while going about their meetings, adding that there are lots of programmes he has in stock for the women’s wing that would ultimately boost economic activities in the community.
Among the programmes that is in the pipeline, according to Hon Sam Onuigbo is the construction of a market which the community women had requested for, this is in addition to attracting the establishment of an Agro-processing plant which is a federal government funded project, at Obuohia Obi-Ibere. He also said that the Obuohia road project has not been forgotten as that important link road work would eventually come to realisation.
The two-time House of Representatives lawmaker who represented the Abia State governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu at the event, described governor Ikpeazu as a supporter of the women of Obuohia Obi-Ibere, which the governor according to him has demonstrated time without number.
Said Onuigbo “In 2016 the wife of the governor Her Excellency Deaconess Nkechi Ikpeazu came to this village to support the women and commissioned the civic hall. The governor encouraged the wife to come despite the deplorable state of our road, and today he has asked me to congratulate you on the successful hosting of the August meeting which had been on for a week today”.
He said the Abia State governor Dr Ikpeazu has promised to continue to support the meeting because he is aware that the community contributed greatly to his election, and would continue to support his administration. Hon Onuigbo commended Gov Ikpeazu for being a father to all in the state, saying that he is working for the good of all without partisanship.
The climax was the donation of N500,000 (Five Hundred Thousand Naira) to the August Meeting by Gov Ikpeazu which received thunderous applause from the women.
National President Obuohia Obi-Ibere Development Union, Women’s Wing, Pastor Princess Chinyere Sam Onuigbo, in her welcome address reminded the meeting that it is the pursuit and substance of peace as a vital ingredient for development that has brought them thus far.
She said the theme of this year’s August meeting is “Choose To Challenge” with the sub theme, ‘God Of All Possibilities’. She stressed that the world today faces many challenges ranging from sickness, hunger, poverty, bad leadership and growing insecurity, adding that time has come for extra-ordinary actions to tackle the challenges.
Pastor Princess Chinyere Sam Onuigbo went further to clarify that the only way forward for the global world is for women to get fully involved in all aspects of life and leadership, while citing the experience of Obuohia where women have taken the centre stage.
The national president of the Obuohia Obi-Ibere Development Union Women’s Wing urged women to deliberately choose to challenge themselves to be better in their careers, family and religious lives as well as in community development because their God is the God of all possibilities. She said the women want to openly appreciate some men and women who relentlessly supported the Obuohia Obi-Ibere women efforts in community development.

This year’s August meeting featured lectures, kindred meetings, general assembly meetings, prayers and fasting, Maggi Nestle Exhibition and funfairs among others, just as it was well attended by dignitaries.
