A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Abia State and former governorship candidate, Chief Nyerere Anyim has said that the caretaker committee Chairman of the party in Abia State, Chief Donatus Nwankpa did not purchase form to run for the party’s chairmanship slated for tomorrow, Saturday July 31th, 2021.
Speaking to the NewsCritic online against the backdrop of reports that party stakeholders have endorsed Chief Nwankpa and passed vote of confidence on him to continue to lead the party, Chief Nyerere Anyim, said he would not like to be distracted because Donatus Nwankpa has not come out to buy form to run for the election.
He described as stupidity the verbal exchange between Mazi Enyinnaya Harbour and Engr Mike Ozoemena on FLO fm radio programme over who is the leader of the party in Abia State. While Harbour gave it to chief Ikechi Emenike, Ozoemena said it is senator Orji Kalu.But Chief Nyerere described APC as one indivisible party, adding that in any organisation like this there must be one odd man out”.He stressed that the duo of Harbour and Ozoemena should be ignored, pointing out that he is against a situation whereby a leader of the APC would leave his local government to dictate what would happen in someone’s LGA where there is also a party leader.
NewsCritic online reports that visible cracks have emerged on the wall of the APC barely 48-hours to the conduct of the party’s state Congress to elect its new leadership. However, Chief Nyerere maintained that at the moment the party has not done the needful in terms of ward, LGA congresses that would herald the state Congress. “So the process has not commenced”, he said.It should be noted that some APC stakeholders loyal to the caretaker chairman Donatus Nwankpa met at the residence of Hon Emeka Atuma and announced the suspension of Chief Ikechi Emenike from the party.
According to them they are reaffirming the earlier suspension of Emenike, which they allekged has not been lifted. Sources disclosed that Ikechi Emenike’s group are trying to dominate the congress using his contacts at Abuja. Also, that Chief Paul Ikonne has made sure that the forms got to his faction members. Investigations revealed that he is in the same camp with Ikechi Emenike, who is with members of the congress committee sent from Abuja.
The Orji Kalu camp appears to be jittery with the development in the party as Ikechi Emenike tend to be on top of the game. Earlier, the Abuja Headquarters of APC gave directive to the state chapter of the party to accommodate Ikechi Emenike’s interest during the Congress.
