Abia State Vigilante Service, AVS, has disassociated itself from having any link or relationship with the ‘Bakassi structured’ security outfit, which came into operations in Awka, the Anambra State capital penultimate Saturday.
The Commander General of Abia State Vigilante Service, AVS, Idika Martins Mba, in a press release issued in Umuahia and signed by him said he wants to use this opportunity to inform that the AVS is not connected in any way to the group in Anambra that bears the name Bakassi Boys’.
Mr Idika Martins Mba pointed out that the Abia Vigilante Service, AVS, under his leadership has decided to put the record straight, so as to correct any misconception that might arise as result of the activities of the so called ‘Bakassi Boys’ that emerged in Awka, Anambra State.
Said he ” the AVS wants to put the records straight by letting the public know that this so called Bakassi Boys from Awka, Anambra State did not originate from Abia State”.
The release further stated that Abia Vigilante Service is not an illegal security outfit, noting that the AVS was a creation of the Abia State House of Assembly which was established as a wholly state owned security outfit.
Mr Idika Martins Mba warned any person or group that deals with the ‘Bakassi Structured’ outfit to be doing so at his or her own risk because the group is not known to Abia Vigilante Service, AVS.
NewsCritic online reports that the ‘Bakassi Structured’ security outfit came into operations in Awka last week following its alleged killing and burning of six suspected cultists and criminals on the spot in Awka. They claimed to have come to rid the state of cultists and criminals.
