The All Progressives Congress, APC, House of Assembly candidate for Umuahia Central state constituency seat in the 2019 General Election, Sir Maduakolam Adighibe aka Ijere, has said that the APC will take over power in Abia State come 2023. Also, the Chairman of Ijere Network a political pressure group, Hon Chucks Ukaegbu maintained that they will support the candidature of Sir Maduakolam Adighibe in 2023 because he is an honest politician, who has not soiled his hands or went about sleeping with other peoples’ wives in the name of politics.
The duo spoke weekend during a reception in honour of Sir Maduakolam Adighibe organised by the APC Ward three Umuahia. In his speech Sir Maduakolam Adighibe popularly known as Ijere said that those angling for the APC ticket for the Umuahia Central state assembly seat should be told that he (Ijere) is in the race, adding that by the grace of God he will win the seat this time.
He thanked the people of ward three Umuahia for supporting him in 2019 and for believing in him, saying that they didn’t lose the last election if the truth must be told. Sir Adighibe warned the intending aspirants who may want to join the fray at the last minutes to stay clear because the ticket of the APC is not for sale to the highest bidder.
“I want to say that I’m in the race, so tell whoever that is jostling for the seat that there is no space. I never engaged in campaign of calumny against my opponent in 2019, except that I’m against the idea of one family holding two strategic political positions at the same time. I commission you today to spread the gospel of Ijere network in ward three and by extension ward one and two, that we will get to the promise land”.
Sir Maduakolam Adighibe stressed that the APC would take over power come 2023, adding that he may not be able to say exactly who the candidate would be for now. He charged the ward three APC to begin door-to-door campaign to win new members into APC ahead of 2023.
On his part the Chairman of Ijere Network, Hon Chucks Ukaegbu, described Ijere Network as a stepping stone to the Abia House of Assembly seat come 2023. He said that it’s Ijere’s political moves that has kept APC alive in Umuahia Central constituency.
“So, if not for Sir Maduakolam Adighibe APC would have been dead, so we are here to tell us that he is running. I want Ijere network to be formidable and strong and to appeal to us not to forget Ijere because I know there will be temptations”, he submits.
A member of the ward three Joseph Agomuoh said they are for Ijere, and only required him to ensure that he gets the APC ticket for them.
