Every year, the Queen marks her birthday twice: once on her actual date of birth, April 21, and then with an official ceremony on the second Saturday in June. Military gun salutes for her birthday have been canceled as she continues to mourn. It is believed the Queen will instead have a quiet lunch with family. The Trooping of the Colour, held on her official birthday, was due to take place on 12 June but was canceled last month due to the pandemic for the second year running. The Queen spent her last birthday isolating with the Duke of Edinburgh at Windsor Castle.
Her birthday comes amid reports of “clear the air” talks between Prince Charles, Prince William, Kate Middleton and Prince Harry at Frogmore Cottage, the home where Harry lived with Meghan Markle, following Prince Philip’s funeral. The talks lasted about two hours, reports British newspaper The Sun.
What happens now? Royal watchers hope that Prince Philip’s passing may bring the Queen’s grandsons, Princes William and Harry, back together after a highly publicized “rift”.
