The Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Abia State Branch has commended the efforts of Senator T.A Orji in health care delivery to the people of Abia state both as governor and now senator representing Abia Central senatorial district.
Speaking during a courtesy visit on the Senator by members of the group at his constituency office Umuahia, the President NMA Abia state, Dr.Chimezie Okwuonu, said that they came to congratulate the Senator on his giant strides in the health sector, both as a governor in the past and as a serving Senator, and to further seek ways of partnering with him in order to achieve its objectives of delivering quality health care to Abians..
The President of NMA used the occasion to enumerate some of the achievements of Senator T.A Orji in the sector, as a governor and as a serving Senator to include, the construction of state-of-the-art Primary Health Care Centre in Umuariaga, Ikwuano LGA with accommodation quarters and a call room,
Also is the construction of an ultra- modern Primary Health Care Centre at Ukome, Isieke, Umuahia North LGA with accommodation quarters and a call room,
Other achievements of the senator, according to NMA were the sponsorship of a radio programme on health, as well as his flagship programme known as Senator T.A Orji Eye Surgery Programme and Eye Institute.
There is also the construction of a multi-purpose hall as a constituency project at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia and the establishment of Abia state specialist hospital, Dialysis and Diagnostic Centre.
The NMA also thanked senator Orji for the establishment of the Amachara Specialist Hospital, which is now serving as an Isolation Centre for Covid-19 infected patients.
In his response, Chief T.A Orji thanked members of the NMA in Abia for their thoughtfulness in partnering with him and reiterated his determination of prioritizing the health needs of his constituents.
He further assured members of the NMA of his continuous support in achieving improved medical facilities and infrastructure that would enable them perform better, while promising to assist the NMA in achieving their projects on hand. He made a donation towards the completion of their Secretariat and events centre at Ubakala.
In a vote of thanks,the Vice Chairman, Dr. Umenwa Joachin, appreciated the Senator for the warm reception accorded them and prayed God to grant him many more years of qualitative representation and service to the people.
The highlight of the event were the official hand over of face protective masks, NMA manuals and brochure among other items to senator Orji.
