Abians Fume As APC Declares Mascot Uzor Kalu Candidate For Aba North/South Reps Election

Mascot Uzor-Kalu is our candidate for March 2021 Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency by-election, according to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

However, majority of Abia State stakeholders are kicking against it, arguing that the Orji Uzor Kalu family wants to personalize APC by fielding their brother as the party’s candidate.

They recalled in 1999 how Orji Kalu fielded his immediate younger brother, Hon Nnanna Kalu, who was later declared winner of the Aba North/South Reps seat under a relatively unknown political party.

They said Orji Kalu is at it again, to give it to his other brother Mascot, who served as Chief of Staff under then Governor T.A Orji before the disagreement which led to his resignation.

They vowed that Aba people will never vote for Mascot Kalu as their representative, especially when he is an outsider who doesn’t live in the area. They described the Orji Kalu family as people who wants to reap where they didn’t sow.

For coming out tops and winner of the properly conducted March 8, 2021 primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the March 27, 2021 Aba North / Aba South Federal Constituency by-election, Hon. Mascot Uzor-Kalu is now our candidate.

We are taking this stand in agreement with the results announced by the chairman of the electoral and returning officer of the committee, Barrister Bisi Idaomi, who announced Aba North 23,248 and Aba South 23, 977. Both Lga Hon. Mascot Uzor-Kalu polled 47,825 votes to win the election.

Standing with the integrity of the committee and the credibility of the properly conducted election in the 24 Wards of the Federal Constituency, Abia State Chapter of the APC therefore makes it clear that henceforth, Hon. Mascot Uzor-Kalu will fly our flag and we shall support him.

From the results from the 24 Wards: 12 wards in Aba South and 12 wards in Aba North where he won with overwhelming majority, Barr Bisi Idaomi declared Hon. Mascot Uzor-Kalu as the winner of the primaries for the by-election coming on the 27th of March.

The police witnessed it, DSS witnessed it, INEC witnessed it, the state working Committee witnessed it and the expanded exco, Aba North and Aba South Chairmen, other exco members. the some Abia APC leaders and members of the press all witnessed it as well.

As a party, we say congratulations to Hon. Mascot Uzor-Kalu. We don’t have any doubt in him. He has the capacity to deliver and we’ll support him till Victory.
