The Isingwu autonomous community of Umuahia North Local Government Area, LGA, Abia State has promised to remain with their daughter-in-law and Director-General World Trade Organisation, WTO, Dr (Mrs) Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala throughout her sojourn as the DG of the global trade organisation.
The community also extended their warmest greetings to her over her appointment and resumption of duty at the Geneva headquarters of the Organisation, saying that while they congratulate their wife on her new office, the people also wish to express their heart felt appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari, who recommended her for this exalted position.
In a statement issued in Umuahia and signed by Elder Onyenjoro Igwe President General and Nwabueze M.O Anosike, PhD, Secretary General, Isingwu Welfare Union, the community said that it’s grateful to the President of the United States of America, Mr Joe Biden for his prompt endorsement of Dr Mrs Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for the WTO job.
“Our appreciation also goes to the entire people of Abia State, Nigeria, African leaders as well as the whole world that supported Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala to clinch this job and make history, the statement stressed.
The Isingwu Welfare Union said it wants to assure that Dr Mrs Ngozi Oknonjo-Iweala’s pedigree as a renowned economist and two-time minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy in Nigeria will usher in the much-desired paradigm shift in the world economy.
According to the statement “the Nigerian women is making giant strides and breaking the glass ceilings globally and our dear vivacious, amiable and highly educated wife, Dr Mrs Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is leading the group”.
The new Director-General of the WTO, Dr Mrs Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala emerged after a keen contest, and she resumed duty on March 1, 2021 making her the first woman and African to be appointed as DG WTO.
