A bus belonging to the Akwa Ibom State Transport Corporation, AKTC, has killed one and injured two students of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, at the University’s park. The survivor is presently recuperating at the federal medical center, Umuahia.
The students union government wrote that “In the afternoon of today Thursday February 25, 2021 the students union leadership of the MOUAU were called to the scene of an accident, which occurred at the entrance to the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) park. The accident involved an AKTC bus which ran into three people. Unfortunately, one of the persons whom we couldn’t identify if she’s a student or not died on the road to the FMC Umuahia, while the other two sustained various degrees of injuries. One of the two accident victims was identified as a 200Level student of Biochemistry, Uzodinma Juliet. She was responding to treatment when the student union officials and some concern students visited the hospital in solidarity to the accident victims. However, we were told the second survivor left the accident scene with serious injuries.
In the students union efforts to get to the driver, the union through the Director of Transportation, Comr Umachi Sampson Aboto, impounded the AKTC bus, to enable us get the driver of the vehicle, who had already surrendered himself to the police authorities.
Also, the Union through the able leadership of Otuonye Famous wishes to thank the students, who rushed Uzodinma Juliet to FMC Umuahia and also deposited money for her medical treatment, and the other lady who unfortunately could not make it to the hospital, as she died on the way to the hospital.
