Abia LGA Primaries: Humphrey Benson Wins PDP Chairmanship Ticket For Umuahia South

Engr Humphrey Benson has won the chairmanship ticket of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the December 8 local government council elections in Abia State.

Humphrey defeated five other aspirants to emerge winner of the LGA Chairmanship primaries with a total of 155 votes, as against his closest rival Emmanuel Nwadinachi who scored 36 votes to come a distant second place.

Other aspirants in the election were Nnamdi Balony with 18 votes, Barr Longman Nwachukwu with 5 votes, Martin Ekueku scored 3 votes and Mr Egbu with 1 vote. A total of 223 votes were accredited with 218 votes cast during the primaries which was peaceful and orderly.

The returning officer Barr Ikechukwu Augustine Emenihu, described the Umuahia South PDP chairmanship primaries as one of the best election conducted by the PDP in recent times. He said PDP has kept to its promise to conduct a free, fair and credible primaries for the people.

Everything was transparent, he stressed.

Speaking to journalists after he was declared the winner by the returning officer, Hon Humphrey said he is feels grateful to God Almighty for making it possible. He maintained that he is going to make sure that he takes Umuahia South to the next level of development given the experience he has acquired in the private sector.

On the main election, the PDP candidate said that he would replicate the feat he recorded at the primaries, adding that the outcome of the party primaries clearly showed that he is on ground and the candidate to beat. Humphrey Benson promised to run an all inclusive government at the LG council and to carry along his opponents because PDP is one family.
