A chairmanship aspirant for Umuahia South Local Government in the December 18, 2020 local government council elections in Abia State, Engr Humphrey Chukwudi Benson, has said that his interest in politics is to rescue Umuahia South from dilapidated and lack of infrastructure especially at the grassroots. He also stressed that he is better qualified for the job because of his years of experience in the private sector and understanding of the global trend.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with NewsCritic online in Umuahia, Engr Humphrey Benson stressed that he would bring his wealth of experience in the private sector as a successful business man to bear in the administration of Umuahia South LGA if given the opportunity as Chairman.
He noted that his clan Umuopara is worst hit by lack of infrastructure as there are no good roads that link up the area, adding that as a credible candidate with the interest of the masses at heart, that he would attract good road projects to the LGA.
Humphrey further stated that if elected as chairman that he would key into the Governor Okezie Ikpeazu vision for Abia State and ensure that development and youth empowerment trickle down to the grassroots. “The Governor is performing and that’s why I want to key into his vision and replicate his achievements at the grassroots. In terms of primary education, youth empowerment programmes, skill acquisition and construction of rural roads and infrastructural development that will stand the taste of time”.
The PDP Chairmanship aspirant called on the good people of Umuahia South to vote for a candidate with experience and leadership qualities to avoid the mistake of the past, adding that with the massive support he is enjoying based on his antecedents, that he remains the best candidate for the job.
Said he “the masses are there for me based on my past antecedents and personal support towards the development of the LGA. NewsCritic online reports that the PDP Chairmanship aspirant is noted for his legendary philanthropy through which he has been able to touch many lives. He has awarded scholarships to the less privileged members of the community, as well as distributed palliatives to the vulnerable and needy in the society individually and collectively.
Speaking on the zoning principles adopted by Umuahia South stakeholders, Humphrey pointed out that the zoning favours Umuopara clan, adding that it was micro zoned to Omaegwu ward where he comes from.
Engr Humphrey Chukwudi Benson is a native of Ehume-Omaegwu in Umuahia South LGA of Abia State. He is a Geologist and businessman whose foray into politics started in 2014 when he contested for Umuahia South state assembly seat. He is happily married with children.
