Former Executive Chairman Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, Reverend Sam Ekeledo, has expressed shock over the death of Chief Johnson Onuigbo, the Abia State Caretaker Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Chief Onuigbo popularly known as ‘Akinbod’ was announced dead this morning from COVID-19 related issues. According to the family, the corpse of the decease has been deposited at the mortuary.
Speaking in a telephone interview with NewsCritic, Revd Ekeledo said he is equally bereaved because he has lost a brother and friend. He said the late Onuigbo never failed to recognise him, Ekeledo anytime they see having worked with him (Ekeledo) as the deputy Chairman of Umuahia North LGA before his elevation.
He stressed that as Chairman of PDP in Abia State, Onuigbo did his job well and won the governorship election for his party, adding that “for me it’s such a shock that he has been deposited in the morgue”.
Ekeledo hopes that his death is not related to COVID-19 disease, maintaining that if so the Abia State government must stop, and embark on massive sensitization programmes. According to him the state governor should carry out investigations fully and spend money on sensitization and distribution of face masks to the 17 LGAs of the state to fight the spread of the disease.
The former Umuahia North council boss pointed out that the death of Onuigbo should tell us that “the world is far bigger than us”, saying that we should live with the understanding and appreciate that fact to take things easy.
