The leadership of Ohuhu Welfare Union Worldwide led by Sir Obi Aguocha has recorded another first in terms of palliatives to the less privilege with the distribution of relief materials valued at over N12 million to the 27 autonomous communities in the clan, to help cushion the effects of the lockdown.
Sir Aguocha had few months back set up the Ohuhu COVID-19 Relief Fund and by the end of Thursday May 14th, 2020 the fund was in excess of N12.15m donated by well-meaning sons and daughters of Ohuhu land, including friends and in-laws like Prince BB Apugo who contributed N500,000 and 50 bags of Rice to the fund.
The distribution of the items weekend at the residence of Aguocha was the second phase of providing relief materials to communities in Ohuhu, with the third phase in the making, according to the President-General.
In his address before the commencement of the sharing of the items to the various autonomous communities, Aguocha commended all that contributed money towards the success of the programme for trusting his leadership and making huge donations.
He believes that as the third phase commences every Ohuhu son and daughter should be able to contribute something to the fund.
Aguocha also disclosed that by the end of this month the ground breaking ceremony for the Ohuhu Civic Centre and Sports Complex would be performed, adding that a committee has been set up for the construction project. The committee, he said is headed by Chief Uzodinma Okpara while Dr Aham Uko was named the Treasurer.
It is expected that by the end of 2021 the project would have been completed to host the Ohuhu Day and Ekpe Cultural Festival.
Speaking during the event, Dr Uko announced a donation of N1million to the Ohuhu Civic Centre project, and promised that as far as he is the treasurer for the project committee that no kobo would miss. He said they must lead by example, while he encouraged all the people of Ohuhu to be part of the project because “that will be the symbol of Ohuhu”.
In all about 406 bags of 50kg Rice, 272 Bags of 100kg Beans, 675 cartons of Noodles, hand sanitizers and noose masks were distributed to the autonomous communities.
