The former Executive Chairman of Umuahia North Local Government Council, Chief Chidiebere Nwachukwu has commended a philanthropist, Chief Chima Ihekwereme Okorie of Umuagugonlori Afugiri, in Umuahia North Local Government Area for donating large quantities of relief materials to his community. The materials were donated as part of efforts to help ease the harsh economic effects of the COVID-19 lockdown in Abia State.
Making the donations on behalf of Chief Ihekwereme Okorie who is based abroad, Chief Nwachukwu said the donations were made out of love for humanity and the need to give back to the society.
He said that the donor is one person that will always love to give back to the society especially to the less privileged and the downtrodden in our midst, adding that this is the true Ohuhu spirit.
Chief Nwachukwu who also donated the sum of N50,000 to support the programme stressed that he feels highly elevated with the way well-meaning Ohuhu sons and daughter are responding to the lockdown by donating relief materials to the masses so that nobody would die of hunger.
He said as a person that he has done a lot to the society and supported many people privately both at the village and Ohuhu level. He also commended the leadership of Ohuhu Welfare Union led by Sir Obi Aguocha for its efforts to ensure that Ohuhu people are not only united but do not suffer during this uncertain period in our history.
Nwachukwu called on Ohuhu people to live in peace and love one another, while he urged those who are well to do to try and help the less privileged for the sake of humanity.
The donations made by Chief Ihekwereme Okorie are 15 bags of Rice, 5 bags of Beans, 20 cartons of Noodles, 3 cartons of Tomatoes paste and Face Masks. Also the palliatives were extended to his in-laws at Umuekwule. Nwachukwu donated N50,000 as his own contribution to the relief items.
