Ohuhu Welfare Union Sets Up COVID 19 Relief Fund, Hands Over Relief Materials Worth N5m

The President General Ohuhu Welfare Union Worldwide, Sir Obi Aguocha has handed over relief materials worth over N5, 000, 000 to the leadership of the 27 autonomous communities in Ohuhu land, for onward distribution to the indigent and vulnerable people in a bid to cushion the harsh economic effects of the Coronavirus pandemic in the country today.

Also the union announced that a COVID 19 Relief Fund has be set up to help the people and ensure that nobody dies of huger during this trying period.

NewsCritic reports that the relief materials were donated by some illustrious sons of Ohuhu, among whom are the Commissioner for Finance, Dr Aham Uko, the member representing Umuahia State Constituency in the House of Assembly, Hon Kelechi Onuzuruike and the Commissioner representing Ohuhu on the Board of ASOPADEC, Hon. Hope Uwaga.  

The donations followed the appeal made by the President General Ohuhu Welfare Union, Sir Aguocha to prominent indigenes of the community to come to the aid of the vulnerable people in the area following the hardship in the land arising from the Coronavirus lockdown.

Speaking during the handover of the relief materials to the communities at his country home, Umuohuru Ngwoegwu, Sir Aguocha flanked by the donors said he sent messages across to the people of Ohuhu that anyone who feels concern about the situation of the country today should help the needy in their midst, either at the village, autonomous community or Ohuhu levels.

He said by the grace of God people have been responding at both levels, so that Ohuhu people will not die of hunger during this lockdown. Aguocha, maintained that this is the beginning of better things to come during his leadership of Ohuhu Welfare Union.

The PG also announced the setting up of a Coronavirus Relief Fund to help her people overcome difficulties arising from the global Coronavirus pandemic disease. According to the President General, the Fund has got about N550, 000 already put into it by well-meaning Ohuhu people to take off.

Aguocha disclosed that a committee would be inaugurated with the responsibility to administer the fund to help people. The committee will be comprised of presidents of clans and autonomous communities.

Also speaking, Dr Uko prayed that God should continue to provide for them so that they can give back to the society in return. He said what they have done is not because they have all the money, but rather has to do with having the spirit of giving.

The commissioner for Finance promised that more is coming and encouraged others to emulate the good gesture and help the less privileged in the society. He emphasised that the relief materials are meant for the less privileged, the vulnerable, widows, orphans, aged and handicapped people in our midst.

Hon Hope Uwaga charged the communities to ensure that the items got to the people it is meant for, adding that it is not a political party affair. In all 108 bags of rice were distributed, including 1, 080 bags of 5kg bags of Rice, 150 tubers of Yam and 2, 700 Nose Masks.

Dr Uko donated 54 bags of Rice, 880 5kg bags of Rice and 1, 350 Nose Masks. Hon Onuzuruike donated 54 bags of Rice with 1, 350 Nose Masks. Hon Uwaga donated 150 tubers of Yam, while Sir Aguocha donated 200 5kg bags of Rice.
