Aminu Ado Bayero has been announced as the new Emir of Kano.
The move comes a few hours after Muhammed Sanusi II was dethroned by the Kano State Government.
A source at the Kano Emirate Council disclosed that the former monarch will take abode in an undisclosed town in Nasarawa State following his removal.
Since coming on the throne, Sanusi, who rose to become Governor of Nigeria’s Central Bank as a professional, has always spoken out against harmful traditions and practices in the North, often times drawing the ire of elites in the region.
The executive council headed by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano claimed that Sanusi was removed for displaying disregard for laid down rules.
Former Kano governor who installed Sanusi as Emir, Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is said to be full of regrets with the turn-out of events in Kano.
Sources disclosed that the former governor is regretting that his predecessor has bastardized the Kano traditional institution on the altar of politics.
