The leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kalu will bury his parents HRH Eze Israel Kanu and Lolo Sally Kanu who died few months back on January 3rd, 2020 according to family sources.
Lolo Sally Kanu the patriarch of the Kalu family died in Germany where she went to seek medical attention, but the paramount ruler of Afaraukwu Mbeku and the patriarch of the family Eze Kanu, died last month after a brief illness at Abia State.
Abia State government officially announced the passing away of the HRH Eze Sir Israel O. Kanu, the Egwu Ukwu II of Afaraukwu Ibeku, Umuahia North LGA.
Kanu’s father died about a month after IPOB leader announced the death of his mother, Lolo Ugoeze Sally Meme in Germany.
A statement signed by the state’s Information Commissioner, John Okiyi, described the death of Eze Kanu as a rude shock, adding that the unwavering love and sterling contributions of the late monarch who died at the age of 86 to the development of his community, including the lasting legacy and indelible impression would be missed.
He assured the family of the late Eze Kanu of government continued support to help ameliorate the pains of his departure and prayed that God in His infinite mercies grants the soul of the late Eze eternal rest.
However, tension has been mounting at the IPOB leader’s community as security agencies patrol the vicinity daily as part of its surveillance operations. Some members of the community told this reporter that they will vacate their homes during the coming burial ceremony, especially if it is true that Nnamdi Kalu will return.
Some of the residents of Afaraukwu advised the IPOB leader to perish the idea of returning for the burial as that would cause serious security issues for the community.
Abia State commissioner of Police, Ene Okon told NewsCritic online in an interview that the proscribed IPOB members want to come out in their numbers to participate in the burial which would not be allowed.
