Abia State Governor Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has directed the various Local Government Areas, LGAs, Head of Service who took over the administration of the council areas following the dissolution of the 17 LGA Transition Committee Chairmen, not to spend any money until the swearing in of the newly appointed Chairmen.
The NewsCritic online authoritatively gathered that the directive was communicated to the Head of Service of the 17 LGAs via telephone, thereby fuelling speculation that the newly appointed chairmen may be sworn in immediately and that workers’ salaries might not be paid soon.
Ikpeazu had dissolved the TC Chairmen yesterday and nominated new names which was forwarded to the Abia State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation. However, there was confusion as the announcement dissolving the TC Chairmen which was signed by the chief press secretary, onyebuchi ememanka failed to state who they should hand over to.
It was only today being Monday afternoon that a new statement directed the outgoing TC Chairmen to hand over to the HOS, who is the most senior civil servant at the LGAs.
However, few hours after some of the HOS took over power at the LGA councils than a communication was transmitted to them warning them not to spend any money. The allocation to the councils will soon drop and some of them are wondering if salaries will not be paid.
