The Human Right, Liberty Access, and Peace Defenders Foundation (HURIDE), has donated Standard Capacity Solar Energy Equipment worth millions of Naira to three Police Stations in Anambra State.
The Stations which benefitted from the solar equipment which would provide them power in event of public power outage are Fegge, Bridge head and Awada police divisions respectively.
The chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT), Dede Uzor A. Uzor who made the donations personally, said the donation is in collaboration with a businessman, Comrade Ambrose Chuba Odua, one of the patron of HURIDE.
According to him the solar equipment would enable the Stations serve the public better, adding that the aim is to ease the work of officers and men of the Nigerian Police Force to serve the public professionally and efficiently.
Dede Uzor pointed out that in doing this “we want to show that we don’t just hold Police accountable but we also help to ease their work. We don’t just criticise them, we don’t hate them but to ensure they do their job well to the benefit of all. We want to assure that we will continue to help where we can”.
The Chairman of the board of trustees disclosed that the donation of the equipment is to support the hardworking and human right friendly Commissioner of Police, John Abang and the hard working PPRO SP Haruna Muhammed.
He said the group intend to provide more of the equipment to other stations in due course, especially those stations which are human rights compliant and friendly.
Receiving the equipment, the Divisional Police Station, Fegge police Division, Onitsha, CSP Rabiu Garba, thanked HURIDE for their gesture in donating the equipment.
He said the equipment would help them in their determination to eradicate criminals in the Division, while assuring that it would be used for the interest of the law abiding citizens.
Barr Godwin Okeke, the DPO of Bridgehead Station, who is also a CSP, said he is impressed that the human right group could assist the Police in the discharge of their work, rather than those who are only fault finders.
To him this showed that all of them are working in synergy to achieve the same goal which is to ride the society free from all forms of criminality.
On his part the Awada DPO, CSP Tony Adeyi commended HURIDE for supporting the Nigerian Police.
