The government of Abia State has abolished the office of the State Director of Information the NewsCritic online learnt.
It has been replaced with Director 1 in the Ministry of Information. The new development came as a surprise to ministry workers who argued that it was in a bid to bring harmony in the state civil service that led to the scrapping of the office of the state director of Information.
The new permanent secretary of the ministry is said to have communicated the new change in name to the affected offices after its approval. This reporter also gathered that the change in name might not be unconnected with the supremacy battle between the office of the state director of Information and other directors in the ministry like Director of Admin etc who are supposed to be in the same level.
It was also disclosed that the office of the state director was in competition with the office of the permanent secretary and commissioner which is not supposed to be so, hence the need to change its name to suit its functions.
