One of the aspirants in the just concluded Ohuhu Welfare Union election held at the Umuawa Central school Umuahia, Mr Chika Nwabueze has petitioned the leadership of the union over the undemocratic acts of cowardice by some self-acclaimed leaders in Isingwu ward, who hired hoodlums to forcefully prevent him from entering and participating in the election in which he was a valid candidate.
In the petition dated November 12, 2019 addressed to the newly elected President-General Ohuhu Welfare Union, High Chief Obi Aguocha and copied the Electoral Committee, the Transition Committee Chairman Umuahia North Local Government Area, and member represent Umuahia North state constituency in the House of Assembly, Hon. Kelechi Onuzurike, as well as the leadership of Ohuhu Solidarity Movement, the petitioner stated that apart from hiring the hoodlums to forcefully prevent him from entering the venue of the Ohuhu Welfare Union election, the co-chairman of the electoral committee, Mr Emenike Nwokocha and one Mr Ohaeri who parades himself as a Phd holder and Mr Chibo Nwagbara all of Isingwu community conspired to further announce with the microphone to the delegates that Mr Nwabueze, who is aspiring to the office of the publicity secretary of the union has stepped down from the race.
The petitioner stressed that at no time did such announcement originate from him, and wondered how the electoral committee members will announce the resignation of a candidate in an election without his knowledge or at least crosscheck the source of the information. He described what happened in the election of the publicity secretary of the union as electoral fraud that cannot stand, and which must be investigated by the relevant authorities and the culprits brought to justice to forestall future occurrence. He said that what the electoral committee did is criminal by deceiving and misleading the delegates to believe that the leading candidate in the race has stepped down whilst it was a big lie.
Mr Nwabueze said he reserves the right to proceed against the anti-democratic elements in Ohuhu land and Isingwu community in particular for forcefully preventing him from exercising his democratic rights to vote and be voted for after he was duly cleared to participate in the election, in such a crude manner that can’t be rationalised.
The aspirant also said that he spent time and huge amount of money to procure the form and to campaign for the election by touring the communities to canvass for the delegates votes only for hoodlums, who were hired by anti-democratic agents to block his way. He said the hoodlums that were hired threatened to deal with him merciless if he insists on entering the venue of the election, a development that made him to keep a distance.
He also said that Mr Ohaeri who has acquired a notoriety over the years in village politics led another group of social miscreants who pelted him with missiles, and also broke his car side mirror, while accusing the aspirant of trying to upset the political table after they have anointed a candidate.
