Twenty five Customary Court judges made up of two chairmen, Mrs Ezinne Cynthia Ukanwoko, Mrs Uzoma Nwokochah (who are lawyers), 12 former members whose tenure were renewed, and 11 fresh customary court members have been sworn-in.
Hon. Justice Anyalewechi Onwuchekwa, president of the Abia state customary court of appeal, while swearing in the judges charged the judicial officers to be dedicated in the discharge of their duties as well as eschew corruption and favoritism.
Justice Onwuchekwa who extolled the Judicial Service Commission, JSC, for the appointment of the judicial officers, enjoined the customary court judges to master their laws and procedures to make them confident and fast in disposing cases. He further tasked the judicial officers to conduct themselves in a manner that would inspire and confer confidence in the court system.
The chief registrar of the customary court of appeal, His worship, Ijeoma Nkume, urged the newly sworn in judicial officers to justify their appointment by making dedication to duty their watchword and assured that her office would assist them at all times for optimal result.
The two customary court chairmen, Mrs Ukanwoko and Mrs Uzoma Nwokchah, on behalf of their colleagues assuredly that they would dispense cases speedily and judiciously, and in accordance with the law and the sanctity of the court. The exercise marked the replacement of retired, disengaged or dead judicial officers in the Abia state customary court system.
