By NewsCritic Reporter

Operatives of the Police special squad, Abuja, today raided the Abuja office of the Abia Line Transport Network and arrested three members of staff as well as carted away consignments and documents in the process, in a crackdown of hard drugs agents who use the transport network courier services to move drugs.

The NewsCritic gathered from competent sources in Abuja that the police team have been on the trail of one unidentified drug agent, who normally use Abia Line to courier hard drugs to Abuja, through the Abia Line Transport network Umuahia office. The customer who always sends the parcel from the Umuahia office is said to reside in Isiala-Ngwa, and has been picked up by the police detectives who trailed him to his base, according to competent sources.

Investigations revealed that the business has been going on in the past two years, with the customer claiming that what he usually couriers to Abuja is real herbal medicine for nursing mothers, who patronize his products.

The NewsCritic gathered that one of the staff of Abia Line Transport Network Abuja office is found to be complicit in aiding and abetting the alleged crime. His arrest followed police inquiry that revealed that he has been the only staff that collects the parcel on behalf of the owner whenever it arrives Abuja through Abia Line Transport.

Again the parcel log book showed that he neither writes the name of the recipient nor sign in the column provided for it. Also, it was gathered that when the Police went through his phone call log from the network provider it was discovered that his bank account is allegedly being used to make payment for the drugs deal. The last transaction in his account is said to be N700, 000 (Seven Hundred Thousand Naira) believed to be proceeds from the drug courier business.

At the time of filing this report, two of the staff must have been released by the Police leaving behind the customer who sends the parcel and the staff who receives it on their behalf.

The female staff of Abia Transport Umuahia, who works in the courier services department and was the one that sent the parcel is said to be related to the General Manager of the Corporation, Chief Mgbeahuru, also called Ohamadike, a reason why she has not been picked up by the Police team from Abuja, to explain what she knows about the shipment of the parcel containing drugs.

The GM could not be reached at the time of this report.
