The National and State Assembly election petition tribunal Umuahia has nullified the election of senate chief whip and former governor of Abia state, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu. The tribunal ordered a rerun election for Abia North senatorial district, Abia State.
Orji Kalu, who was the candidate of the APC defeated Chief MAO Ohuabunwa of the PDP, but the late petitioned the tribunal alleging irregularities.
The three-man panel headed bu Justice Cornelius Akintayo ordered the supplementary election be held in polling units across Abia North senatorial district.
Kalu has urged Abians not to lose hope, saying he will reclaim his mandate at the Appeal Court. Kalu polled 30, 203 votes to defeat his closest rival, Ohuabunwa who scored 20, 801 votes.
In another ruling, the tribunal upheld the election of Reps Sam Onuigbo of the PDP for Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency.
